It's been just under a month since our move. Although my little home isn't exactly the way I would love it to be, it is feeling like home nonetheless. So many people have prayed for us in our transition, and I have no doubt those prayers have had a tremendous impact on this whole experience, particularly my own heart and attitude.
Burlington is a charming little river town. It's pretty neat living so close to the "Mighty Mississippi." It's definitely an old town, but to me, small and old is a pleasant mix.
Speaking of charming, we have the sweetest neighbors; a delightful older couple. They're the kind of neighbors you dream of (or at least would expect from a 50s sitcom). The Mrs. welcomed us with hugs and freshly baked loaf of zucchini bread. We were introduced to their spunky poodle mix, Jax. It's fun to see them light up any time they see us outside, especially if Ian is with us.
Now that things are getting settled, we're trying to get out in the community a little bit - get to know some people. This last weekend afforded us that opportunity, being Halloween and all. We attended 2 different Trunk or Treats. Ian got some candy, Ryan and I made some connections. It was a win-win deal. Ryan has also been invited by a previous pastor of Heritage FMC to do some networking with area pastors. It seems as if many of them want to help Ryan however they can. This has also been uplifting.
Ryan also found out today that he got a job! This might sound strange, since he's already the pastor of the church, but we knew coming in, this would need to be a bi-vocational position. He starts Monday as a teller at a bank here in town. The starting pay is pretty good; we will be more than provided for. I am so grateful.
There is much to do here in Burlington, but I think we are on our way. God has certainly gone before us, and I cling to the promise of Philippians 1:6. "And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." Please be praying with me that Kingdom work here in Burlington with be so fruitful.
God is able. I am joyful.
